Destruction of habitat has been introduced as the biggest threat to biodiversity, and on the opposite point of favorable habitat, it has a significant impact on the survival and reproduction of species. Therefore, evaluating the quality and determining the desirability of the habitat is the most important action in making decisions about the environment. The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the habitat desirability index and habitat preference of the Lorestan salamander in Poldakhtar region of Lorestan. For this purpose, sampling was done during six months from March to September 2023, at 30 stations along the water bodies of the region. Environmental parameters include abundance of salamanders, water flow rate, percentage of silt, percentage of sand, percentage of pebbles, percentage of rubble, water temperature, water pH, percentage of shaded area by vegetation or rock and stream wall on the water, dissolved oxygen, the deepest The point of the site, the percentage of aquatic vegetation, the height of terrestrial vegetation, the percentage of terrestrial vegetation, distance from the river, the thickness of humus, the degree of virginity or disturbance of the site, soil temperature, type of site (spring or stream), the presence of other species (fish/ Crabs and other amphibians) were recorded in all stations. First, the statistical analysis of the data was done to investigate the difference between the spring site and the stream, and then the correlation between the environmental data and the abundance of salamanders was examined through the Pearson correlation test, and at the end, using the HABSEL model and the GAM and Habitat use sub-models, the relationship between Habitat variables and abundance of salamanders and subsequent habitat desirability curves were drawn using these parameters, and suitability index (SI) was calculated based on the presence of the species for each environmental parameter in order to check the habitat preference of the species. The results showed that there is no significant difference between the two sites of stream and spring, and also the results of Pearson's correlation showed that water flow velocity, percentage of sand, percentage of shade area, dissolved oxygen, height of dry vegetation, percentage of dry vegetation, Soil moisture had a direct and significant correlation with the abundance of salamanders, and finally, these factors were entered into the model, and the habitat desirability curves were extracted separately in certain classes that were preferred by the species, and the result of these results was an index of the desirability of the entire habitat species and it was calculated as 0.234, which indicates the rare presence or low density in field studies and the low growth potential of this species.
